Golf Team Travels To Miami For Miccosukee Women's Championship

What's Happening: The Washington State women's golf team travels to Miami, Fla., for the Miccosukee Women's Championship Feb. 21-22.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-73, 5,919-yard Miccosukee Country Club.
The Field: The Cougars (25) are the favorite to win the tournament, as they are the only team ranked in the top 25. Iowa State, Bradley, Campbell, Citadel, Colorado, Denver, Florida Atlantic, host Florida International, Georgia State, Memphis, Richmond, Wisconsin, Xavier, Maryland, Toledo, UCF, and Daytona Beach Community College join the Cougars in the tournament field.

Last Week: The Cougars dominated the Inland Collegiate Cup last week, taking home both the team title and the individual title. Senior two-time All-American Kim Welch won the individual title with a six-shot victory over the second place finisher. Maria Kostina, Anastasia Kostina and Jay-Lee Longbottom also finished in the top 10, giving the Cougars a 17-stroke team victory.

Anastasia Kostina Ranked: Junior Anastasia Kostina is currently ranked No. 8 on the GolfWeek/Sagarin Performance Index, and No. 13 in the Golfstat Cup Standings. Kostina has finished in the top eight in all five tournaments this season. She recorded her first career tournament victory at the Stanford Women's Intercollegiate. The three-round score of 5-under 205 at Stanford was the lowest three-round total in school history. Kostina was named GolfWeek Player of the Week, Oct. 23 for her performance at Stanford. Kostina also represented her home country of Russia at the Women's World Amateur Team Championships where she finished in eighth place.
Browner's Big Break: Former Cougar Tasha Browner (1998-2002) was eliminated Feb. 15 from The Golf Channel's 'Big Break III: Ladies Only.' The show, which first aired Feb. 8, on The Golf Channel, puts 10 women in a series of elimination challenges with the winner earning entry into select LPGA tournaments.
