Cardinal Softball Defeats Jacksonville 2-1 In Tampa
Feb. 19, 2005
Tampa, Fla. - Thirdbaseman Michelle Smith singled in both Cardinal runs in the bottom of the sixth as the Stanford softball team defeated Jacksonville, 2-1, at the USF/Wilson Tournament in Tampa, Florida. The Cardinal improve to 8-1 on the season while the Dolphins drop to 3-8 overall.
It was a pitchers dual for the first four innings until Jacksonville score a run in the top of the fifth to go up 1-0.
Stanford would answer in the bottom of the sixth when Catalina Morris led off the inning with a single. Jackie Rinehart put down a bunt that was mishandled by the thirdbaseman to put runners at first and second. With one out on the board, both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. Michlle Smith singled through the leftside scoring both runners and putting the Cardinal up 2-1.
Freshman Lauren Nydam picked up her first win of the season, pitching two shutout innings with three strikeouts. Katie Dobson took the loss for the Dolphins, allowing two runs on three hits over six innings of work.
Stanford is back in action at the USF Tournament tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. ET against Seton Hall.
