Lappin Knocks In Game-Winning Run In 4-1 Win Over Seton Hall

Tampa, Fla. - Shortstop Lauren Lappin knocked in the go-ahead run on a two-run homer as the sixth-ranked Stanford softball team defeated Seton Hall, 4-1, this afternoon at the USF/Wilson Tournament in Tampa, Florida. The Cardinal improve to 9-1 overall while the Pirates drop to 1-3.
Seton Hall got on the board first, scoring a single run in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the fifth with two outs on the board, Jackie Rinehart singled to the second baseman then advanced on an error by the second baseman. Junior Lauren Lappin then hit a homerun to leftfield to put the Cardinal up 2-1.
The very next inning, catcher Leah Nelson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. With one out on the scoreboard, rightfielder Meghan Sickler hit her first homerun of the season to leftfield, giving Stanford a 4-1 advantage.
Freshman Lauren Nydam (2-0) picked up the win in the circle in relief, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout. Megan Meyer took the loss for Seton Hall, allowing four runs on seven hits over six innings of work.
Katie Pierce led Seton Hall with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a run scored.
Stanford will play host-South Florida later today in continued tournament action.
