No. 32 California Defeats UC Santa Barbara, 5-2

Berkeley - The No. 32 Golden Bears (4-2 overall) won four of five singles matches and the doubles point to defeat UC Santa Barbara (1-7), 5-2. With the win, California improves to 4-2 on the year, while the Gauchos fall to 1-7.
Cal clinched the victory with four wins in singles competition. Junior Conor Niland outlasted Alex Anselme in three sets, 6-2; 3-6; 6-1. Senior co-captain Patrick Briaud recorded a win on court two, where he defeated Ivan d'Arence, 6-3; 6-2. Sophomore Tyler Browne scored a victory on court four, where he beat Elad Stern, 6-3; 6-4. Freshman Ken Nakahara won in straight sets on court five against Anders Dalskov, 6-1; 6-4.
In doubles play, Cal won two of three matches to take the point. Browne and sophomore Daniel Sebescen notched their first victory of the year on court one, where they defeated Anselme and d'Argence, 8-3. Nakahara teamed up with sophomore John Pettit to clinch the doubles win on court two, where they beat Anselme and Dalskov, 9-7.
The Bears will travel to Los Angeles next weekend to face USC on Friday, Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. They will meet UCLA on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 1:00 p.m.
