Maxwell Is Pacific-10 Pitcher Of The Week
Feb. 22, 2005
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State's Anton Maxwell has been named Pacific-10 Baseball Pitcher of the Week of the week for Feb. 15-21, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday. Maxwell (Anchorage, Alas./East HS, Feather River CC), a sophomore lefthander, took a no-hitter into the eighth inning of Oregon State's 8-0 victory over California-Davis on Feb. 19.
In 7 1/3 innings of work against the Aggies, Maxwell allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out eight UCD batters. Maxwell's no-hitter was broken up by UC-Davis right fielder Kyle Irving, who singled to start the eighth inning. Maxwell also yielded a walk to lead off the first inning; he then retired 21 straight UC Davis batters.
In earning the victory, his first of the season, Maxwell also gave Oregon State head coach Pat Casey his 300th win as skipper of the Beavers. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first-ever for Maxwell and the 55th selection all-time for Oregon State.
