Cal Finishes Seventh at Lady Puerto Rico Classic

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - California opened the spring season with a seventh-place finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Wednesday at the Dorado Del Mar Country Club. The Golden Bears carded their lowest team score of the tournament (304) Wednesday to finish with a 54-hole total of 927.

No. 3 Auburn led wire-to-wire and won the 14-team tournament with a plus-24 888, followed by TCU (909), Florida (910), Wake Forest (912), Georgia (913) and Tulsa (920).

Auburn's Diana Ramage claimed the individual title with an even-par 216, which was five shots ahead of her teammate Margaret Shirley and TCU's Camille Blackerby.

Junior Sofie Andersson paced Cal in a tie for ninth at 225 following a final round of 75. This is the third time this season Andersson has led the Bears at a tournament. Senior Claire Dury placed 21st at 229 after leading the Bears during the final two rounds with scores of 74.

Cal junior Sophia Sheridan took 38th (234), sophomore Mika Takayama tied for 51st (240) and freshman Jen Sanders tied for 61st (246). Takayama carded a 75 in the final round.

The Bears next compete at the Spartan Invitational March 8-9 in Monterey, Calif.
