No. 1 Stanford (8-0, 1-0 Pac-10) will host two top ranked Pac-10 foes, as No. 11 UCLA and No. 12 USC will visit The Farm this weekend. The Cardinal and the Bruins will face off at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the Taube Tennis Center. The match will also be available to watch online at GoStanford.com. Stanford and the Trojans will match up at 12-noon on Saturday.
Stanford, fresh off a mid-week sweep of No. 21 Fresno State, got an early glimpse at UCLA and USC when the squads competed at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships in January. At that event, senior All-American Erin Burdette captured the singles title. Burdette also teamed up with junior All-American Alice Barnes to win the doubles title.
Six Cardinal singles players are ranked in the top-30 in the newest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, which was released on Jan. 22. Burdette earned the team's highest ranking at No. 14, while Barnes checked in at No. 22. Stanford freshmen Lejla Hodzic and Whitney Deason were tabbed No. 24 and No. 30, respectively, while Theresa Logar earned the No. 27 slot. Two-time NCAA Singles Champion Amber Liu is ranked No. 28 after not competing in the fall.
In doubles, Barnes and Burdette are ranked No. 10, while Liu and Anne Yelsey earned the No. 55 ranking.
UCLA's top ranked singles player, No. 15 Riza Zalameda, has posted a 17-5 record so far this season with a 6-1 dual match record. Other ranked Bruins are: No. 38 Daniela Bercek and No. 98 Elizabeth Lumpkin. Bercek and Zalameda are the third-ranked doubles team in the nation, while Laura Gordon and Lumpkin check in at No. 42.
The Trojans top singles player, No. 9 Nicole Leimbach, is 17-4 on the year with a 3-0 mark in dual matches. Other ranked USC players are: No. 17 Lindsey Nelson, No. 87 Dianne Matias and No. 88 Anca Anastasiu.
