Trojan Track And Field Opens Outdoor Season At Claremont Relays
Feb. 24, 2005
Los Angeles -
The USC men's and women's track and field teams will open their outdoor seasons this Saturday (Feb. 26) at the 9th annual Carl Rossi Relays at Claremont-McKenna College.
Field events begin at 12:15, running events get underway at 1 p.m.
Even though marks are not officially recognized by the NCAA until March 1, USC coach Ron Allice has most of his team participating.
'We are far behind because of our lack of a proper facility to train at right now,' said Allice, referring to the recent construction undertaken at Loker Stadium. 'We need to play catch-up, so we are going to get out there and compete. Ninety per cent of our athletes will be there.'
Many athletes will be competing outside of their prime events, mainly for training purposes. However, expect to see the hurdlers get some action in their main evens, led by junior All-American Virginia Powell and up-and-coming sophomore Candice Davis.
The USC throws teams will be out in full force with the exception of the javelin throwers.
