UCLA Cruises Past USC

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Aaron Afflalo had 22 points and nine rebounds, and DijonThompson added 17 points and five assists Thursday night to lead UCLA to a90-69 victory over USC.
Michael Fey, the Bruins' 7-foot center, and Thompson, a 6-foot-7 forward,dominated the frontcourt, often getting completely open for dunks against theTrojans' porous defense.
Fey finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Heading down the stretch of the season, the Bruins (15-9, 9-7 Pac-10) hopeto finish strongly to enhance their chances of an NCAA tournament bid.
They led their crosstown rivals 49-33 at halftime and extended the lead to30 points in the second half before both teams began substituting freely.
Jeff McMillan led USC (11-16, 4-12) with 17 points and eight rebounds. TheTrojans, last in the conference, also got 11 points from Rory O'Neil.
Fey, getting good position under the basket and good feeds from histeammates for open shots, had 11 first-half points to help UCLA build its16-point lead.
Thompson chipped in with nine points and four assists, and Josh Shipp addednine points for UCLA in the first half. Shipp didn't score in the second half.
Outplaying the Trojans on defense to trigger their offense with fast breaks,the Bruins reeled off a 14-0 string during a four-minute span to take acommanding lead late in the first half.
They had six steals in the opening 20 minutes, including three by Thompson,who added another in the second half.
The Bruins had an easier time of it in the rematch after having to rallyfrom an 18-point halftime deficit in a 72-69 win on Jan. 29. The victorysnapped a four-game losing streak against their crosstown rivals and was UCLA'sfirst on the Trojans' court since 2001.
UCLA leads the all-time series 129-98.
