No. 4 Cardinal Blank Auburn 9-0

Stanford, Calif. - Junior Catalina Morris hit her fifth homerun of the season to help the fourth-ranked Stanford Cardinal to a five-inning, 9-0 win over Auburn this afternoon at the Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 14-1 overall while the Tigers drop to 17-5.

Stanford got on the board first scoring three runs in the top of the second inning. Becky McCullough drew at walk then Catalina Morris hit a homerun to right centerfield. Jackie Rinehart reached first on a base on balls and came home on an error by the third baseman.

The Cardinal added to their run total in the top of the fourth inning as Lindsay Key led off with a double. A single by Morris was followed by a sacrifice fly by Rinehart, scoring Key. Lauren Lappin then doubled to bring Morris home. After in infield single by Michelle Smith, Leah Nelson hit a homerun to right centerfield.

Pinch hitter Heather Shook scored on a single by Lappin to make the score 9-0 in the top of the fifth.

Catalina Morris had a 2-for-4 day at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Lauren Lappin chipped in two hits, two RBI and a run scored as well. Leah Nelson went 1-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored.

Junior Laura Severson (7-1) picked up the win in the circle, scattering four hits over four innings of work with four strikeouts. Holly Currie took the loss for the Tigers, allowing eight runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings of work.
