Womens Tennis Falls 5-2 To Stanford

Stanford, Calif. - No. 1 Stanford (10-0) handed No. 12 USC (6-1) its first loss of the season, 5-2, Saturday, Feb. 26, in Stanford, Calif. Freshman, and 17th-ranked,Lindsey Nelson though remains perfect at 7-0 this season from the second position.

The Cardinal started doubles play by earning the point from positions one and three. USC's Anca Anastasiu and Nelson prevented the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at court No. 2.

In singles, the Cardinal won four matches to secure the win. The Trojans' Nelson showed her grit, and remained undefeated on the season, upsetting No. 14 Erin Burdette, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7), at court No. 2. The Women of Troy's Carine Vermeulen picked up the other point for USC, defeating Anne Yelsey, 7-5, 6-4, at court No. 5.

Next week, USC heads across town to face rival UCLA on Friday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m.
