Huskies Defeat Oklahoma State, 1-0

Feb. 27, 2005

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calf.-- A leadoff homerun by Dominique Lastrapes in the fourth inning broke open a scoreless tie against Oklahoma State (11-6) and lifted the Washington (10-5) softball team to the 1-0 victory to close out the Palm Springs Classic. The Huskies finished the tournament with a 3-2 record and are riding a three-game winning streak.

Neither team had a runner reach past second base through three and a half innings. Lastrapes' home run to leadoff the fourth marked the first of her career.

The Cowgirls put runners on second base in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings but each time UW ace Ashley Boek closed the door. Boek used two strikeouts in each of the fourth and fifth innings and a ground ball in the sixth to get out of the jams unscathed.

Boek (7-2) earned her fourth shutout of the season as she scattered five hits and walked just one, while striking out 12. The 12 strikeouts ties her career-best.

Aimee Minor went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles. Sarah Hyatt had Washington's only other hit.

Minor finished the tournament with a .500 average (5-for-10) with a pair of home runs and four RBIs. Hyatt hit .438 (7-for-16) with two home runs and seven RBIs.

The Huskies return to action next week when they take part in the Las Vegas Classic, Mar. 4-6. Washington opens play on Friday vs. Drake at 6:15 p.m. UW will also take on Illinois-Chicago, Oklahoma, Long Beach State and host UNLV.
