Huskies Tee Off at Ashworth Collegiate Invitational

Seattle - The 20th-ranked Washington men's golf team will play in USC's Ashworth Collegiate Invitational Feb. 28-March 1 at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. The 14 teams and six individuals will play 54 holes (three rounds) on the 6,815-yard, par 71 course. The first and second rounds are slate for Monday starting with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun tee, with Tuesday's final round commencing with a 7:45 a.m. shotgun start. This year's field includes No. 8 USC, No. 10 BYU, No. 20 Washington, No. 23 Tennessee, Georgia Southern, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Stanford, Washington State, California, Vanderbilt, UC Riverside, Fresno State and UC Irvine.
Last year Texas wound the tournament with a 5-under score of 847. The Longhorns Matthew Rosenfeld claimed medalist honors by shooting 5-under 208. Washington was 13th last year in the 17-team field. The Huskies shot 892 and were led by Brock Mackenzie's 22nd-place finish with a 5-over 218.
Alex Prugh leads Washington with a 71.14 stroke average through five tournaments this year. In the UW's last outing, the Huskies were fourth at the 21-team Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawaii. The Huskies shattered the school's 54-hole tournament scoring record by 18 strokes by shooting 48-under 816. James Lepp placed second overall, shooting 18-under 198. He broke Washington's previous 54-hole tournament record by four strokes.
