Pamanian's Offensive Outburst Helps No. 1 Cal to Victory

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Second baseman Jessica Pamanian went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as the No. 1 California softball team completed play at the Palm Springs Classic on Sunday with a 9-3 win against Loyola Marymount.
Cal (11-1) scored three runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a Pamanian single to plate leftfielder Lindsay James. An error by LMU shortstop Brittany Bassett allowed catcher Haley Woods and Pamanian to score later in the inning.
The Lions (1-4) struck back in the bottom of the first inning with two runs before Cal pushed its lead to 5-2 in the second on RBIs from James and Pamanian.
Centerfielder Kaleo Eldredge, James and Pamanian scored for Cal in the fourth and first baseman Julie Meyer scored on a wild pitch in the seventh for Cal.
Starter Sarah Adams improved to 2-0, despite being lifted with no outs in the first for Kelly Anderson, who tossed four innings. Junior Kristina Thorson struck out seven hitters over the final three innings.
The Bears return to action Thur., March 3 against Portland State at 2 p.m. to open the Mahalina Kipa Aloha Tournament, hosted by Hawai'i.
