Cal Men's Golf in Sixth Place After First Day of Ashford Collegiate Invite

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA - The Cal men's golf team is in sixth place after the first two rounds of the 2005 Ashford Collegiate Invitational, played at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. The Golden Bears, the defending 2004 national champions, shot rounds of 296 and 290 to conclude the first day at 586 (+18). Tennessee is in first place at 563 (-5), followed by host USC (567, -1), BYU and Georgia Southern (571, +3) and Stanford (584, +16).

Cal's top performers Monday were senior All-American Jeff Hood and freshman Michael Jensen, who are currently tied for 21st with a +3 145 (both players shot 72, 73). Redshirt freshman Kyle Dowden is in 28th place with a 147(75, 72, +5), while sophomore Brandon Beck is tied for 35th at 149 (77, 72, +7) and redshirt freshman Jeff Vetterick is 61st at 155 (80, 75, +13).

The tournament will finish with 18 holes played Tuesday. Cal placed fifth in last year's tournament (then called the Cleveland Golf Invitational), also played at the North Ranch Country Club.
