Men's Hoops Adds 2004 NCAA Elite Eight Member Xavier To Future Schedule

The Arizona State men's basketball program has signed Xavier to a home-and-home series beginning at Xavier in December of 2006 and the Musketeers coming to Tempe in November of 2007. Xavier reached the Elite Eight last year before losing to Duke and has been in the NCAA Tournament the past four seasons and in six of the past eight years.
ASU will visit Xavier on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, while Xavier will vist Tempe on Monday, Nov. 26, 2007.
Arizona State previously had announced two home-and-home series for the next two seasons with Big Ten opponents, as Arizona State will play host to the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, and will return the game with a trip to Minneapolis on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006.
The Sun Devils are scheduled to go to Iowa on Saturday, December 17, 2005, while the Hawkeyes will return the trip on Saturday, November 25, 2006.
Minnesota leads the ASU series 2-1, with last meeting a 69-37 Gopher win in the 1991 Maui Invitational. ASU won a 98-79 contest in Tempe on Dec. 22, 1963, while Minnesota won the first meeting 70-68 in Minneapolis on Dec. 20, 1961. Its last NCAA Tournament appearance came in 1999, and it also went to the Final Four in 1997.
Iowa, 15-7 and 3-6 in the Big Ten this season, and Arizona State have met just once, a 96-88 Sun Devil win over 12th-ranked Hawkeyes on Dec. 6, 1980, in the finals of ASU's holiday tournament. Its last NCAA Tournament appearance was in 2001.
ASU is 15-13 against the Big Ten in its history.
It defeated Northwestern 90-55 on Dec. 20, 2004, in Tempe and fell at Evanston 63-61 on Dec. 17, 2003, in its most recent meetings. It also defeated Purdue 70-53 on Dec. 21, 2002, in the Las Vegas Shootout.
