Jill Bell and Cameo Hicks Named To All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention Team

WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. --Washington sophomores Jill Bell and Cameo Hicks were named to the 2004-05 All-Pac-10 honorable mention team as voted upon by the league's coaches, conference commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Also honored was freshman Dominique Banks who received Pac-10 All-Freshman honorable mention honors.

Earning top conference honors was Stanford's Candace Wiggins, a freshman sensation who earned Pac-10 Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year acclaim. Stanford's Tara VanDerveer, who has led the Cardinal to a 26-2 overall record this season, was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year.

Bell, a forward from Bellevue, Wash., and Hicks, a guard from Tracy, Calif., were recognized by the Pac-10 for the second-straight season. Last year Hicks was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team and Bell named to the All-Freshman honorable mention team.

The pair has led the Huskies (13-15, 9-9 Pac-10) who have won seven of their last 11 games heading into this week's Pac-10 Tournament. Bell, who has started 20 of 28 games, averages 8.8 points and leads the team with 5.4 rebounds. Hicks, who has started 23 of 28 games, ranks second on the squad in both scoring (9.2 ppg) and rebounding (4.6). Bell and Hicks are the Huskies' top shooters, with Bell shooting 40.5 percent from the field and Hicks shooting 42.1 percent.

Banks, a guard from Stockton, Calif., has made on impact on Washington in just her first season. Banks has started 11 of 27 games, missing one game due to injury. She averages 7.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, to go along with 40 assists and 26 steals.

The Huskies head to San Jose, Calif., today to open play at the 2005 State Farm Pac-10 Tournament, held March 4-7 at the HP Pavilion. Washington, seeded seventh, will play No. 10 seed Oregon State, Friday, March 4, at 6 p.m. The winner will face No. 2 seed Oregon, Saturday, March 5, at 1:15 p.m.
