No. 1 Stanford Travels to Arizona for Pac-10 Play
March 3, 2005
Stanford, Calif. - Top-ranked Stanford (10-0) will head to Arizona this weekend to face off against a pair of Pac-10 opponents. On Friday, the Cardinal will match up against No. 48 Arizona on Friday at 1:30 p.m. (MT) and No. 27 ASU on Saturday at 12-noon (MT).
With six singles players ranked in the top-30 and a seventh in the top-100, the Cardinal is poised for another strong season. Stanford went undefeated in 2004, the second perfect season in head coach Lele Forood's four-year tenure. This year, the Cardinal is off to a 10-0 start, extending its win streak to 39-straight matches.
Arizona has started the 2005 campaign with a 5-3 record and an 0-1 mark in the Pac-10. The Wildcats dropped a 4-3 match to Oregon last week to open conference play. Arizona has only defeated Stanford once, when the Wildcats edged the Cardinal, 5-4, in 1987.
On Saturday, Stanford will head to Tempe to face the Sun Devils, who moved up 10 spots in the last poll from No. 37 to No. 27 after posting a 7-0 shutout against No. 25 Oregon last week. Arizona State is 3-1 on the year with a 1-0 mark in conference play. ASU will face No. 15 California on Friday before hosting Stanford on Saturday.
