Men's Swimming In fifth Heading Into Final Day at Pac-10 Championships

Long Beach, Calif.- The Arizona State University men's swimming and diving team is in fifth-place after the third day of competition at the 2005 Pac-10 Men's Swimming Championships held at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. The diving portion of the meet was held last week.
In the 400 IM, the Sun Devil men had a NCAA consideration performance by freshman CJ Nuess, who swam into seventh overall with a time of 3:52.48. Kyle Horton touched the wall in 4:03.54, swimming into 14th place. Freshman John Dwelley hit the water for ASU in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 17th with a time of 49.73. He swam a personal-best time of 49.40 in the preliminary swim earlier today. Steve McDonald touched the wall behind Dwelley in a season-best 49.80.
The 200 freestyle event saw ASU's Jeff Barrett swim into 11th-place with a NCAA consideration time of 1:38.00. The Sun Devil men had four swimmers finish in the top-fifteen in the 100 breaststroke, with Emerson Ward leading the way for ASU with a season-best and NCAA consideration time of 54.63to finish in sixth. Russell MacDonald followed for the Sun Devils with a time of 55.82 to claim 11th-place. Leonardo Martins (56.13) and Joey Clements (56.23) rounded out the 100 breaststroke event for ASU finishing in 12th and 15th, respectively.
Evan Rahaeuser and A.J. Blusiewicz were in action for the Sun Devil men in the 100 backstroke. Rahaeuser led the way with a time of 50.73 while Blusiewicz touched the wall in 52.12. Rounding out Friday's competition was the 400 medley relay team of Bobby Crowder, Ward, McDonald and Rahaeuser swimming in a time of 3:20.13.
Action at the conference championships concludes tomorrow at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool with the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. while the finals get underway at 6 p.m.
