Women's Tennis Blanked By No.1 Stanford, 6-0

March 5, 2005

Tempe, AZ - The Arizona State Women's Tennis Team was back in action Saturday afternoon playing the No. 1 Stanford in front of an almost packed house.

The Devils played well on the day with four of six singles matches going all three sets, but Stanford was too much for the Devils as they were swept 6-0.

Due to inclimate weather, the match started off late, and only singles were able to be played, due to Stanford having to make a return flight home.

Though Stanford was stacked with an almost full roster of top-ranked players, the Devils stepped up and gave them a tough match.

Freshman Jessica Leitch took on the No. 14 Erin Burdette, and started the match off well taking the first set 6-4.

Burdette proved to be too much though coming back winning the second and third set, 7-5, 6-2, respectively.

Leitch's fellow Devils played hard against the Cardinal, who have 6 of their roster players within the top-30 nationally ranked.

The Devils fall to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in Pac-10 play.

Next up the Devils hope to bounce back from their two-match losing streak on Wednesday against their in-state rival, Arizona.

The match is set to kick off at 1 p.m. in Tucson.
