Bruin Dive Team Heads to Oklahoma for NCAA Zone E Championships

Four UCLA divers will head to Oklahoma City, OK Wednesday, Mar. 10-Saturday, Mar. 13 for the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships with the hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships Mar. 17-19 at Purdue University.
Senior Janine Strack, juniors Amanda Blong and Paige Thompson, as well as freshman Brittany Renfrow will travel to Oklahoma to take on some of the very best divers in UCLA's geographic zone (West of the Rocky Mountains). Several Pac-10 teams will be at the meet with USC, Stanford, ASU and Arizona in attendance. The meet will also feature other schools in the area like New Mexico and BYU.
There will be about 40 women in the springboard events and about 25 in the platform. This year, Zone E has nine spots for the NCAA Championships for the women. The top four finishers on Three Meter (Thursday), top three finishers on One Meter (Friday), and the top two finishers on platform (Saturday) will make up the remaining group of athletes selected to the 2005 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships to be held March 17-19 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.
The UCLA swimming team has qualified nine athletes for the NCAA Championships, as well as three relay teams. Bruin swimmers headed to Nationals include: sophomore Katie Arnold (50 Free, 100 Back, 200 Back, 200 Free Relay, 400 Medley Relay and 200 Medley Relay); junior Shellene Catalano (200 IM, 100 Breast and 200 Breast); sophomore Katie Nelson (500 Free, 1650 Free, 200 Free and 200 Medley Relay); senior Kim Scarborough (200 IM, 400 IM, 200 Back and 200 Free Relay); junior Eileen Seissen (100 Breast and 200 Medley Relay); freshman Nicolette Teo (100 Breast, 200 Breast and 400 Medley Relay); sophomore Amy Thurman (200 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay); junior Kim Vandenberg (50 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Fly, 200 Free Relay, 200 Medley Relay and 400 Medley Relay); freshman Chiemi Yamamoto (200 IM, 400 IM and 200 Breast).
