Castaneda Added To NCAA Field
March 7, 2005
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's Felicia Castaneda has been added to the field for the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, giving the Beavers three entrants in the meet for the first time ever. Castaneda (Gresham, Ore./Sam Barlow HS), a freshman, will swim the 100-yard breaststroke at the meet, which will be March 17-19 at West Lafayette, Ind.
Castaneda had reached the 'B' qualifying standard with her season-best time of 1 minute, 3.05 seconds at the Pacific-10 Championships. Those with a 'B' qualifying time are not automatic entries to the NCAA Championships, but are eligible to be added until the field is filled.
Castaneda joins senior Mari Embertson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg HS) and freshman Courtney Eads (Glendora, Calif./Glendora HS) in representing OSU at the national meet. Embertson will swim the 200 individual medley and the 400 individual medley and Eads the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly.
At last season's NCAA Championships, Embertson earned All-America honors by placing seventh in the 400 IM as the Beavers placed 20th in the team standings.
