Gabe Pruitt Named To All-Pac-10 Freshman Team
March 7, 2005
Trojan freshman Gabriel Pruitt was one of five players named to the 2005 Pac-10 All-Freshman team, the league announced today.
Pruitt, a 6-4 guard from Los Angeles, led the Trojans in scoring (the only freshman in the league to lead his squad) and set a USC record for 3-point shooting percentage in a season (.450).
He led all Pac-10 freshmen in steals (1.96 per game) and 3-point percentage and was second among freshmen in scoring (12.3 ppg) and assists (3.17 apg).
Nicknamed 'Smilin' Gabe' because of his happy on-court demeanor, Pruitt averaged 14.2 ppg the last half of the season and shot .504 from the field and .547 from 3-point range.
Fellow Trojan Nick Young, a 6-6 swingman from Los Angeles, also got some recognition, earning all-freshman honorable mention notice. Young--nicknamed 'Noodles'--was third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.1 ppg. He had five 20-point efforts in his rookie campaign.
Pruitt, Young, sophomore Lod Stewart and junior Dwayne Shackleford all return to play for new USC coach Tim Floyd in the Trojans' last go-around in the Sports Arena next season.
