Sam Warburg And KC Corkery Capture Pacific Coast Doubles Championship Title

La Jolla, Calif. - The top seeded duo of senior Sam Warburg and junior KC Corkery claimed the title of the 116th annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championship at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club on Sunday. The tandem won two matches on the final day of main draw play, defeating Texas A&M's Brett Joelson and Ante Matijevic in the final.
Warburg and Corkery, the No. 2 ranked duo in collegiate tennis, met Cal's Patrick Briaud and Conor Niland in the semifinals to start the day, and emerged with a straight set victory, 6-4, 6-4. The tandem then moved on to the final where they faced No. 2 seeded Brett Joelson and Ante Matijevic of Texas A&M. The Cardinal pairing took the first set 6-2, before surrendering the second set by a score of 6-4. The Cardinal team rallied to close out the victory with a win in the third set, 6-4.
Joelson and Matijevic was the second Aggie tandem that Warburg and Corkery defeated at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship, having knocked off the pairing of Zack Malmgren and Bryan Wooten in the Round of 32 on Saturday.
The Cardinal is currently 8-4 in dual matches and holds a No. 13 ITA rank. The squad returns to action on March 21st, when Santa Clara visits The Farm for a non-conference dual match.
