Bruins Lead SJSU Invitational by a Stroke

The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team climbed to the top of the leaderboard after 36 holes in the SJSU Spartan Invitational Tuesday at Corral del Tierra CC in Salinas, CA.

The Bruins improved 17 shots from their first round score of 298 and posted a three-under par score of 281 in round two. Their total of 579 (+11) leads Washington by a stroke. California is third at 585, followed by UNLV, the first round leader, at 586 and UC Irvine at 588.

Freshman Amie Cochran improved her first round score by 10 shots and fired a second round 66 (-5). She was tied for third place with teammate Charlotte Mayorkas at 142 (E). Mayorkas posted rounds of 72-70. Junior Susie Mathews posted rounds of 75-70--145 (+3) and was tied for seventh, and sophomore Hannah Jun was tied for 23rd at 150 (+8) after a pair of 75s. Senior Melissa Martin was tied for 29th at 152 (+10) after posting a pair of 76s.

Cal's Sophie Andersson was the 36-hole leader at 135 (-7) following rounds of 68-67.

Final round action continues Wednesday.
