Mark Romanczuk Earns Pac-10 Pitcher Of The Week Honors
March 8, 2005
Stanford, Calif. - Stanford junior left-handed pitcher Mark Romanczuk has earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for the period ending Monday, March 7. Romanczuk won the award for the first time this season and on the sixth occasion in his career.
Romanczuk pitched his second straight complete game for his Pac-10 co-leading fourth victory of the season in a 10-3 victory over California last Saturday. After giving up three runs in the first two innings, he was arguably as good as in his previous outing versus USC (first career complete game shutout) from that point on, blanking the Golden Bears on just one hit over the final 7.0 frames. The win was the 27th of his career, moving him into a tie for seventh on the school's all-time list and within 10 of all-time school leader Jeff Ballard (37, 1982-85).
For the season, he is 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 39.1 innings.
His selection marked the 68th time a Stanford pitcher has been chosen for the honor in the history of the award.
No. 11 Stanford (11-7) is currently in the midst of a 12-day break before resuming action versus Pacific from Saturday-Sunday, March 19-20. The teams will play at Stanford on Saturday to open the abbreviated two-game set before the action moves to Stockton on Sunday with both contests scheduled to begin at 1 pm, PT.
