WASHINGTON senior outfielder Taylor Johnson and STANFORD junior left-handed pitcher Mark Romanczuk have been named Pac-10 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 1-7, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced.

Johnson, from Vancouver, Wash., went 9-for-13 (.692) in four games last week, with five walks. He also scored six runs, drove in five, had two doubles and a home run. Johnson stole two bases and did not strike out. In a three-game series against UC Santa Barbara, he was 8-for-9 with five walks and reached base in 12 straight plate appearances at one stretch. In a 6-5 win on Mar. 5, he walked to lead off the ninth inning and scored the winning run on Kyle Larsen's two-out single. Johnson currently leads the UW in batting (.400), runs (13), hits (20), homers (3), walks (12), slugging (.620) and on-base percentage (.516).

Romanczuk, from Newark, Del., pitched his second consecutive complete game for his Pac-10 co-leading fourth victory of the season. Having tossed the first complete game shutout of his career in his previous outing, Romanczuk allowed just three runs and five hits with seven strikeouts in a complete game win in the series opener versus California. After giving up three runs in the first two innings, he was lights-out from that point on, blanking the Golden Bears on just one hit over his final seven frames. The win was the 27th of his career, moving him into a tie for seventh on the school's all-time list and within 10 of all-time school leader Jeff Ballard (37, 1982-85).

The Player of the Week honor is the first for Johnson, while it is the 44th such honor for Washington. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the sixth for Romanczuk and the 68th selection all-time for Stanford.
