No. 16 California Defeats No. 66 Pacific, 5-2

Berkeley - The No. 16 California women's tennis team defeated No. 66 Pacific, 5-2. With the win, the Golden Bears record improves to 7-3 overall, 0-1 Pac-10.

Cal took the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. Court one saw Suzi Babos and Marion Ravelojaona defeat Vana Mrazovic and Katharina Heil, 8-0. Stephanie Kusano and Jessica Shu beat Natalia Kostenko and Viktoria Szendrei on court two, 8-4. Tiffany Lee and Cristina Visico completed the sweep on court three, where they were 8-3 winners over Katharina Trumpf and Anja Herrmann.

The Bears continued their winning ways in singles, picking up four of six matches. Kusano defeated Heil, 6-0; 6-2, on court two, while fellow freshman Ravelojaona notched a win on court three over Kostenko, 6-4; 6-1.

Junior co-captain Shu came out ahead against Trumpf, 6-1; 4-6 (10-4), while Visico was victorious on court six, defeating Szendrei, 6-1; 6-1.

The Bears remain at home next week, hosting Purdue Wednesday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. and Princeton Friday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Hellman Tennis Center.
