Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament Quotes

Head Coach BEN BRAUN
On Rebounding and Rebuilding for Next Season: 'As Richard (Midgely) said, we're certainly disappointed. We've had some tough breaks, but we have to bounce back. Tough teams bounce back from tough breaks and sometimes tough circumstances can spawn greater success. I think that it's important for our team to realize that we have an opportunity and a responsibility to improve, and that's going to be the motivation for us. We have faced some adversity this year, and our team seemed to have done better in the face of adversity, like when we were missing players or when players were injured... For right now though, it's just going to take a large amount of motivation us.'
On Team Preparation for Arizona: 'I thought the team was ready to play. Guys practiced hard all week, and there was a lot of energy in warm-ups, but they (Arizona) were just hitting their shots and we couldn't get back in the game.'
On Final Month of Play: 'I feel as though we can use the last half of our season as motivation for us to get better. I think everyone on the team is disappointed in how we ended the season, so I guess we can use that to fuel our workouts in the summer and learn from this, and get better.'
On Guarding Salim Stoudamire: 'I don't know how other teams try and guard him, but I try to just stay in his face and not give him many open looks and try to deny him the ball.'
On Team Preparation: 'I thought we had a good week of practice, Coach Braun came up with a good game plan for us, and we tried to execute it, but we couldn't knock down shots and it was hard to get back in the game.'
Head Coach Lute Olson
On Jawann McClellan's Play: 'Jawann McClellan came off the bench and played very well. He will work his way up to one of the first guys off the bench because with Jawann, we can go with him at either of the wing positions. He is a very confident player, and he plays well off the glass. We are very happy with his development.'
On Possible #1 Seed: 'I think it's realistic on attaining a #1 seed because everything depends on how well teams play in these tournaments. If someone gets knocked out in the first round, I'm not sure they will go in as a #1 seed. I think you can flip a coin for the fourth #1 seed.'
On Team Improvement: 'The main thing we are concerned about is just getting better and eliminating the troubled areas in which will help us get better. Jesus (Verdejo) has been playing really well in a practice situation, and we base how we substitute on how things have gone in practice situations. No one is owed anything in our program because it's up to hard work and proving that you deserve the time that you get.'
On Today's Game: 'I felt with Salim (Stoudamire) and his technical problem, I had to step up for the team. I was kind of upset that I wasn't doing my job on the defensive end, so I didn't want to waste an opportunity on the offensive end.'
On Improved Range: 'At the ASU game, I felt that I was rushing, and I was missing. My technique was embarrassing. So, today when I got the opportunity I was going to work real hard. I just wanted to go out there and make all the shots I could.'
On Coach Olson's Email to the Pac-10: 'I was shocked because of the aggressiveness of the tone, but it's good to have a coach stick up for you like that. I understand that individual awards are nice, but I would have rather got the win at Washington than the award. I appreciate the coach's concern, but if I don't get the job done, I don't deserve an award.'
On Richard Midgley's Defense: 'Everyone who guards me, holds me, and I just didn't want to force anything. My teammates picked up the slack, and we blew them out.'
On Taking a #8 Seed Lightly: 'We want to get a #1 seed so we have to go out focused every night.'
