Women's Tennis Takes Down In-State Rival Arizona, 4-3
March 9, 2005
Tuscon, AZ - The Arizona State Women's Tennis Team (4-3, 1-2 Pac-10) travelled to Tucson to take on their in-state rival the University of Arizona (5-6, 0-1 Pac-10) Wednesday afternoon at the Robson Tennis Center.
After a tough, gritty match between the Wildcats, the Sun Devils proved to be the better team pulling off a 4-3 win.
In doubles play the Devils were able to sweep the Wildcats for the point, which has only been taken from the Wildcats on one other occasion in eight matches at home.
The doubles point proved to be the difference as the Devils and UA split singles, with UA winning on courts 1-3 and the Devils taking 3-6.
The decision came down to senior Lauren Colalillo's singles match versus Camelia Todorova, which Colalillo was able to take the first set 6-1, but Todorova came back strong winning the second set, which led to a nail-biting third set finally won 7-5 by Colalillo.
The Devils will have the weekend off to rest and gear up for their match versus No. 8 Duke (7-3) on Monday, March 14.
The match is set to be played at Tempe's Whiteman Tennis Center with a start time of 12:00 p.m.
