March 11, 2005
TEMPE, Ariz. - Please note that due to NCAA regulations, the Sun Devils' scrimmage on Saturday night will be closed to the public.
With a 22-9 overall record, the Sun Devils are looking to make their sixth all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and their first since advancing to the second round in 2002. ASU advanced to the championship game of the 2005 State Farm Pac-10 Tournament, falling to top-ranked Stanford. This season marks the seventh 20-win season in Sun Devil women's basketball history and the third for ninth-year head coach Charli Turner Thorne.
This year will also mark the school-record sixth consecutive postseason appearance for Turner Thorne, who is the all-time winningest coach in ASU women's basketball history. With an NCAA berth this season, she could become the first coach in school history to lead the Sun Devils to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
ESPN will televise the NCAA Tournament Selection Show at 3 p.m. Mountain Time on Sunday, announcing the 64-team bracket for the 2005 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.
NCAA qualifiers will travel to eight on-campus sites for first- and second-round action. First- and second-round play will get underway on March 19 and 21 in Dallas, Texas, Fresno, Calif., Minneapolis and Seattle, while action in Chapel Hill, N.C., College Park, Md., Knoxville, Tenn., and Storrs, Conn., will play out on March 20 and 22.
ASU and Wells Fargo Arena have been selected to host the Tempe Regional of the 2005 NCAA Division I Championship with games scheduled for March 26 and 28. If ASU advances to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, the team will play in Tempe.
