No. 10 UCLA Defeats Washington State, 6-1
March 12, 2005
PULLMAN, Wash. -- The No. 10-ranked UCLA women's tennis team (8-4; 2-1 Pac-10) completed its weekend sweep of the Washington Schools Saturday, defeating the Washington State Courgars, 6-1 in Pullman. On Friday, UCLA posted a 5-2 victory over No. 12 Washington.
WSU sophomore Amy Toth grabbed the lone victory for the Cougars (5-8, 0-3 Pac-10) at the No. 5 singles slot. Toth upset No. 83 Laura Gordon 3-6, 7-5, (10-6) to capture her team-leading 15th singles win this season.
Other than that victory however, the Bruins were just too strong, as they feature three ranked singles players and a ranked doubles team. At the No. 1 doubles position, Ekaterina Burduli and Nora Gaal won just two games in an 8-2 loss to third-ranked Daniela Bercek and Riza Zalameda.
UCLA returns to action next week, hosting Texas on Tuesday at the LATC beginning at 1:30 p.m.
