Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament Quotes
March 12, 2005
Head Coach Lute Olson
On the game: 'There's no question the team that played the hardest won the title. We were out-rebounded 41-26 and that can't happen. Down the stretch, Tre Simmons came up big and Nate Robinson, as he always does, came up big when the game was on the line.'
On the loss: 'This is just a bump in the road and we need to learn from it and get ready for Thursday.'
On Salim Stoudamire: 'I think the guys were standing around waiting on Salim to make a play and we just can't do that.'
On Stoudamire's alleged trip: 'That call did not cost us the game, the boards is what cost it for us and we need to correct it for Thursday.'
On the second half: 'They rebounded well and beat us on the second chance points.'
On the final minutes of play: 'I want to be that guy everyone looks up to but at the same time we have to stay within the team concept, and today we got away from that.'
On being tripped up: 'You can't let referees decide the game, because it shouldn't have ended that way, regardless of the no-call.'
On the game: 'We need to look at the problems we had to day and learn from it, and then use it as a character builder.'
On Stoudamire's performance: 'He shot the ball like he shoots it everyday in practice and if we had won, it would have been better then what it is now.'
Head Coach Lorenzo Romar
On Big Win: 'That was a great win over a great team by a great bunch of guys. We are not the biggest team in the world but all year long we stayed together. I couldn't be more excited for these guys to experience being a champion in this tournament.'
On Salim Stoudamire: 'Salim Stoudamire played his heart out and had a great game. We were able to work our tails off with a sense of urgency which just wouldn't let us lose today.'
On Fatigue: 'These are 19 and 20 year old kids so I don't think that fatigue will be a problem. We do have to come down from the high of winning a championship. We don't play for another four days or so we can get good and rested. I think that we will be fine because these guys have been waiting for this moment too long, even if they are tired the adrenaline is going to kick in.'
On Second Half Game Plan: 'Coach told us to stop taking so many three's because we weren't making them in the first half. Coach just said in the second half make sure we get the ball to our side. We traded baskets with them and then we caught fire and from there it was like a snowball effect.'
On Being Rested for the NCAA Tournament: 'We could play another game right now.'
On Winning the First Pac-10 Tournament Title for Washington: 'It feels great, I know for my team, these guys are pretty much proud of our coaches, our families our friends. We're all just proud of the University of Washington. We did it for them.'
On Defending Salim Stoudamire: 'We just stayed together. We tried to joke with Arizona players by saying that Salim wasn't going to pass them the ball, and we tried to kill their confidence that way...'
On Winning the Pac-10 Tournament Title for Washington: 'It feels good, I can't describe how I feel emotionally, but it definitely feels good. This is my senior year, it's my last year so...it basically comes down to me being proud of my team, and being proud of my coaches.'
