Toth Grabs One As Cougars Fall to No. 10 UCLA

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The No. 75 Washington State women?s tennis team captured one singles victory in its 6-1 loss to No. 10 UCLA Saturday.

Sophomore Amy Toth grabbed the lone victory for the Cougars (5-8, 0-3 Pac-10) at the No. 5 singles slot. Toth upset No. 83-ranked Gordon 3-6, 7-5, 1-0(6) to capture her team-leading 15th singles win this season.

?I was impressed with the way we competed at some of our positions today,? Washington State head coach Lisa Hart said. ?We hope to gain some confidence for our roadtrip to California next week.?

The Bruins featured three ranked singles players and a ranked doubles team. In No. 1 doubles, Ekaterina Burduli/Nora Gaal posted two points in their loss to the No. 3 Bruin duo of Daniela Bercek/Riza Zalameda 8-2. In No. 1 singles Burduli fell 6-3, 6-4 to No. 48 Bercek and senior Orsolya Sallai also lost to her ranked opponent, No. 19 Riza Zalameda 6-3, 6-0.

The Cougars will be back in action Wednesday, March 16 against Cal State Northridge in Northridge, Calif. Washington State will also face San Diego March 17 and Marshall in San Diego March 18 before finally coming home to face cross-state rival Washington Sunday, March 20.
