No. 19 Wichita State Rallies In 10th For 6-5 Win Over No. 21 Texas Tech

LOS ANGELES - Catcher Joe Muich delivered a game-winning, two-out double in the bottom of the 10th Sunday as the No. 19 Wichita State Shockers defeated the No. 21 Texas Tech Red Raiders, 6-5, in final day action at the 2005 Public Storage Baseball Classic at Dedeaux Field. The Shockers tied the game with two runs in the seventh and answered in the extra frame after the Red Raiders scored a run in the 10th.
Both teams went 1-2 in the tournament as Wichita State improved to 16-3 on the season while Texas Tech dropped to 15-5 overall.
Kyle Touchatt (3-0) earned the win after pitching in the 10th for the Shockers while Tanner McElroy (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
The Shockers rallied with two outs and the bases empty in the 10th. Left fielder Tyler Hill walked and was replaced by pinch runner Carlos Jackson. After stealing second, Jackson scored on an RBI single from Derek Schermerhorn. During the play, an errant throw from right fielder Madison Edwards allowed Schermerhorn to move to second. Damon Sublett was intentionally walked before Muich hit a double off the fence in right field.
Cameron Blair's sacrifice fly in the fifth gave Texas Tech a 3-1 lead. Shortstop Nick McCoola singled home Kenny Waddell in the bottom of the inning to make it a 3-2 advantage. In the Red Raider seventh, Cooper Fouts scored from second on an error by third baseman Tad Reida. The Shockers responded with two runs in the seventh on back-to-back RBI singles from Blake Hurlbutt and McCoola.
Schermerhorn, Hurlbutt and McCoola had two hits each for the Shockers. Brent Musgrave pitched four no-hit innings for Wichita State, allowing one unearned run with two walks and four strikeouts.
