UW Golfers Finish 12th at Southern Highlands

Las Vegas, NV - The 24th-ranked Washington men's golf team finished 12th in the 15-team Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship in Las Vegas. Washington shot 17-over 305 during Sunday's final round to finish at 901. Host UNLV won on its home course by 15 strokes at 855. The 18th-ranked Rebels turned in a tournament best 8-under 280 during the final round.

The tournament was considered the best regular-season event of the season with all 15 teams ranked in the top-25, including the top six teams in Golfweek's rankings in the field. The Huskies, the lowest ranked team in the event, finished above No. 6 Auburn, No. 13 Texas and No. 19 Clemson.

Washington was led by sophomore Erik Olson who shot 1-over 73 for the third consecutive day. Olson was 18th overall at 3-over 219. It marked the first time in Olson's career he has been the top finisher for Washington. James Lepp, who shot 71 during the first round before falling back with a 78 and 76 during the final two rounds, was 40th at 225. Alex Prugh was 54th at 228, Travis Andrews was 60th at 231 and Joe Panzeri was 70th at 236.

South Carolina's Mark Anderson and UCLA's Daniel Im shared medalist honors at 4-under 209. Anderson led the tournament after both the first and second rounds.

The Huskies return to action march 19 at the Northwest Shootout at Bandon Dunes.
