No. 8 Bruins to Host VCU This Wednesday

UCLA to Host Virginia Commonwealth This Wednesday . . .
Eighth-ranked UCLA (14-2) will play its final non-conference opponent of the regular season this Wednesday, hosting No. 29 Virginia Commonwealth (9-5) at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m. It will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams. As usual, fans unable to attend Wednesday's match can follow the live results online at VCU is the only team on the Bruins' plate this week, as the team prepares for final exams beginning next Monday.

Bruins Take Two in Arizona . . .
UCLA is coming off a very successful road trip in the desert over the weekend, defeating both Arizona State and Arizona. The weekend began with the Bruins registering their ninth shutout of the season in a 7-0 win over ASU on Friday. UCLA dropped just one set in six singles matches in that dual. The Bruins' showdown with Arizona the following day was a little tougher, as the UCLA was forced to battle back after losing the doubles point. Fortunately, the Bruins were able to dominate in singles play winning five of six matches. Senior Luben Pampoulov did not make the trip to Arizona in order to rest an injury that has been lingering since before the National Team Indoors in February.

UCLA Checks in at No. 8 . . .
UCLA dropped four spots to No. 8 in last week's ITA National Team Rankings released on Mar. 8. The Bruins were ranked No. 4 before losing to USC on Mar. 1. Individual rankings were also released last week. Luben Pampoulov is the highest ranked Bruin in singles play checking in at No. 9. He is followed by No. 14 Benjamin Kohlloeffel, No. 49 Kris Kwinta, No. 66 Philipp Gruendler and No. 95 Alberto Francis. In doubles, Francis and Kwinta are ranked No. 34. New team rankings are released every Tuesday. Individual rankings will not be released again until Mar. 22.

Kohlloeffel First to Reach 30 . . .
With two wins over the weekend, sophomore Benjamin Kohlloeffel pushed his singles record to 31-4 , becoming the first UCLA player to reach 30 victories this season. Other players who are likely reach 30 wins this year include Luben Pampoulov (21-4), Alberto Francis (22-7) and Kris Kwinta (20-6).

Head Coach Billy Martin . . .
The 1996 ITA National Coach of the Year and UCLA's 1975 NCAA singles champion, Billy Martin, owns a 267-52 (.837) overall record and is currently in his 12th season as head coach at UCLA. In 11 season's, Martin has guided the Bruins to the national title match three times and has never had a team finish out of the top five at the NCAA Championships.
