Three Huskies To Compete At Women's NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

SEATTLE - Washington swimmers Jessica Buchanan, Desiree Johnson and Caitlyn Shortt will compete in the 2005 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., Mar. 17-19. The trip marks the second for Johnson and the first for Buchanan and Shortt.
Shortt will swim Washington's only race on Thurs., Mar. 17, when she competes in the 200-yard individual medley. She is seeded 58th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.41, which ranks fourth in the UW all-time list.
All three Husky swimmers will race on Fri., Mar. 18 as Shortt and Buchanan will swim the 100 breaststroke and Johnson will swim the 100 backstroke.
Shortt, the school record holder in the 100 breaststroke, is ranked 39th in the event with a time of 1:03.20 set against Hawaii in February. Buchanan is ranked 44th in the event with a time of 1:03.40 set at the Pac-10 Championships. She ranks second on the UW all-time list.
Johnson is seeded 24th in the 100 backstroke with a school record time of 54.81 set at the Pac-10 Invitational.
All three swimmers will also take the pool on Sat., Mar. 19, with Buchanan and Shortt swimming in the 200 breaststroke and Johnson swimming the 200 backstroke.
Shortt is ranked 24th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:14.90 set at the Pac-10 Invitational. The time is the second-fastest in UW history.
Buchanan is seeded 35th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:15.88 set at the Pac-10 Championships. The time ranks third on the UW all-time list.
Johnson is seeded 45th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:00.74 posted at the Pac-10 Championships. She ranked third on Washington's all-time list in the event.
The meet, hosted by Purdue, will take place at the Boilermakers Aquatic Center. Preliminary races begin at 11 am and finals begin at 7 pm.
