Five Pacific-10 Conference teams will compete in the 2005 NCAA women's basketball tournament, third-most among the major conferences and the most selections for the league since 1998, when five teams were given slots... The Pac-10 is sending as many teams as the SEC and Big Ten... The ACC led the nation with seven teams, followed by the Big 12 with six... No.1-ranked STANFORD (29-2 overall, 17-1 Pac-10), the Pac-10 regular season and Tournament Champion, received the No. 2 seed in the Kansas City Regional and will face No. 15 seed Santa Clara in Fresno, Calif.... This year's Cardinal squad, winners of 20 straight games by an average of 22.7 points, is the first No. 1-ranked team not to receive a No. 1 seed in 21 years -- since Texas in 1984... The ARIZONA STATE Sun Devils (22-9, 12-6), making their sixth straight postseason appearance, are the No. 5 seed in the Tempe Regional and will take on No. 12 seed Eastern Kentucky, also in Fresno... Under first-year head coach Mark Trakh, the USC Trojans (19-10, 12-6) are making their 14th overall NCAA appearance but first since 1997... No. 8 seed USC takes on No. 9 seed Louisville in Minneapolis, Minn., as part of the Kansas City Regional... The recipient of an at-large bid for the third consecutive season, the ARIZONA Wildcats (19-11, 11-7) are the No. 9 seed in the Chattanooga Regional and meet up with No. 8 seed Oklahoma in Knoxville, Tenn.... The OREGON DUCKS (20-9, 12-6) return to the Big Dance for the first time since 2001... As the No. 10 seed in the Tempe Regional, Oregon meets up with No. 7 seed TCU in Seattle, Wash... A Pac-10 team has advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in 20 of 23 NCAA tournaments, and Pac-10 teams have reached the Elite Eight eight times, including twice in the last four years -- Stanford in 2004 and Washington in 2001.

NCAA TOURNAMENT PARTICIPANTS

ARIZONA WILDCATS:The Wildcats secured an at-large NCAA Tournament berth for the third straight year... No. 9 seed Arizona takes on No. 8 seed Oklahoma in Knoxville, Tenn., as part of the Chattanooga Regional... Arizona fell in the Pac-10 Tournament quarterfinals to USC, 74-66... The Cats are led by SR G Dee-Dee Wheeler, the Pac-10's active career scoring leader (1,937 points) and JR C Shawntinice Polk, both First Team All-Pac-10 selections... Wheeler ranks second on the Pac-10 career steals chart, with 301 thefts, just eight shy of first-place Tammy Story of USC (1989-92)... UA is 1-0 all-time against Oklahoma, their lone meeting on Nov. 19, 1999... The Cats are 1-2 against LSU and have never competed against Stetson.

ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS: The Sun Devils are making their sixth all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2002... ASU advanced to the second round in 2002 and has twice reached the Sweet Sixteen (`82, `83)... Head coach Charli Turner Thorne is the first in school history to lead her team to three NCAA appearances... With a 22-9 overall record, the Sun Devils turned in the seventh 20-win season in school history and the third under Turner Thorne, currently in her ninth season at ASU... ASU returned to the national polls on Mar. 8, and is ranked 24th in the coaches' poll... SO F Emily Westerberg, a First Team All-Pac-10 selection, ranks 12th in the league with 11.1 points per game... The top defensive team in the Pac-10, ASU leads the league in scoring defense (and ranks 10th nationally) at 53.4 points per game... The Sun Devils have held 13 opponents to 50 points or less this season... The State Farm Pac-10 Tournament runner-up, ASU fell 56-42 to top-seeded Stanford in the title game... The Sun Devils tied for second place in the Pac-10 at 12-6.

OREGON DUCKS: The No. 10 seed in the Tempe Regional, Oregon is off to the Big Dance for the first time since 2001, and will face No. 7 seed TCU in first round play in Seattle... The Ducks are 1-0 in the all-time series with the Horned Frogs, have never played Baylor and are 2-1 against Illinois State... Oregon is 4-11 all-time in NCAA Tournament history and looks to advance past the second round for the fist time ever... The Ducks are coming off a 1-1 showing in the State Farm Pac-10 Tournament, defeating Washington and falling to Arizona State in the semifinals, 54-47... Led by All-Pac-10 First Team selections SR F Cathrine Kraayeveld (14.4 ppg, 8.4 rpg) and SR C Andrea Bills (11.7 ppg, 7.0 rpg), Oregon logged its best Pac-10 finish (T2nd) since winning the Pac-10 title in 2000... The Ducks rank third in the league in scoring defense and have held opponents to less than 60 points 18 times this season -- including their Pac-10 Tournament games against Washington and Arizona State.

STANFORD CARDINAL: Winners of 20 consecutive games by an average of 22.7 points, the Cardinal enter the NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the Kansas City Region, but are ranked No. 1 in both national polls... Stanford is the first No. 1-ranked team not to receive a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in 21 years -- since Texas in 1984... Stanford takes on No. 15 seed Santa Clara in Fresno, pitting the Kimyacioglu sisters -- Stanford's Sebnem and SCU's Yasemin -- against each other for the first time in their collegiate careers... The Cardinal are 24-4 in the all-time series with the Broncos, post a 2-0 record against Iowa State and are 6-0 against Utah... Stanford is coming off its third straight Pac-10 Tournament title and fifth straight Pac-10 Championship... FR G Candice Wiggins (17.3 ppg) became the first freshman ever to be named Pac-10 Player of the Year, and she is the lone freshman in the nation to grace the Midseason Naismith and Wooden Award lists... Stanford is also represented on the All-Pac-10 First Team by SO C Brooke Smith (13.0 ppg) and SR G Kelley Suminski, the Pac-10's active career three-point leader (205 treys).

USC TROJANS: Under first-year head coach Mark Trakh, the Trojans are making their 14th NCAA appearance, but their first since 1997... USC, which is 19-10 and tied for second in the Pac-10 at 12-6, won NCAA titles in 1983 and 1984... The No. 8 seed in the Kansas City Regional, USC will take on No. 9 seed Louisville in first-round play in Minneapolis... Saturday's game marks the first-ever meeting between the Trojans and Cardinals... USC is 2-0 against Michigan State and has never played Alcorn State... The Trojans went 1-1 in the Pac-10 Tournament, defeating Arizona and falling to Stanford, 73-69, in semifinal action... FR G Brynn Cameron, a Pac-10 All-Freshman selection, leads the squad in scoring at 10.2 points per game... SO F Shay Murphy became the first Trojan to be named to the Pac-10 All-Tournament Team... Trakh guided Pepperdine to three NCAA berths in his tenure there (`00, `02, `03).
