Women's Tennis Hosts Texas on Tuesday

Bruins and Longhorns to Battle This Tuesday . . .
With final exams scheduled to begin next week, the No. 10-ranked UCLA women's tennis team (8-4; 2-1 Pac-10) will play just one match this week, hosting No. 15 Texas (8-2) on Tuesday at the Los Angele Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Longhorns won the last meeting, a 4-3 victory in Austin last year and lead the all-time series 10-8. UCLA's last victory over Texas was a 6-1 decision at home on Mar. 11 2003. Coincidentally, the Texas softball team will be facing the Bruins at Easton Stadium at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Against the Washington Schools . . .
The Bruins are coming off a successful road trip in Washington last weekend, picking up a pair of much needed conference wins. UCLA started the weekend with a 5-2 victory over No. 12 Washington on Friday. After sweeping all three doubles matches, the Bruins won four of six in singles play for the win. UCLA traveled to Pullman the following day, recording a 6-1 victory over Washington State, improving its all-time record against the Cougars to 11-1.
New Team Rankings Released This Tuesday . . .
UCLA checked in at No. 10 in the latest ITA Team Rankings released on Mar. 8. The latest individual rankings were also released a week ago and freshman Riza Zalameda is highest ranked Bruin at No. 19 in the country. She is followed by No. 48 Daniela Bercek and No. 83 Laura Gordon. In doubles, Bercek and Zalameda remained at No. 3 in the country. After this Tuesday, new team and individual rankings will be released again on Mar. 22.
Just Four Home Matches Remain . . .
Following this Tuesday's meeting with Texas, the Bruins will have just three more home matches during the regular season. UCLA's final home weekend was supposed to be against Cal and Stanford on April 8 and 9, however the Bruins' last home match will actually be against USC on Apr. 16. That match was originally supposed to take place at USC, but was changed when the Bruins traveled across town to take on the Women of Troy back on Mar. 4.
Head Coach Stella Sampras Webster . . .
Stella Sampras Webster is in her ninth season as head coach at UCLA, owning an overall record of 141-81 (.635). In her eight seasons in Westwood, the Bruins have finished in the top-10 at the NCAA Championships seven times, including a trip to the finals in 2004. As a player, Sampras Webster was a four-time All-American at UCLA from 1988-91, capturing the NCAA Doubles title (w/Allyson Cooper) as a freshman in 1988.
