Lillibridge Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington junior shortstop Brent Lillibridge and Arizona sophomoreright-handed pitcher Mark Melancon have been named Pac-10 BaseballPlayer and Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 8-14,Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Lillibridge, from Everett, Wash., went 4-for-11 (.374) in three Huskywins last week (one over Portland and two over Pacific), with all fourhits leaving the park for home runs. He hit one homer againstPortland, a grand slam against Pacific in the first game and then twohomers in Thursday's win over the Tigers. He finished the three gameswith eight runs batted in and seven runs scored, having walked onceand been hit by a pitch three times. He also stole a base and fielded21 errorless chances. Lillibridge is currently riding an 11-game hittingstreak, longest of the year by a Husky hitter, and has yet to make anerror all season as the UW's everyday starter at shortstop.
Melancon, from Golden, Colo., was perfect in Arizona's series victoryover visiting Mississippi State last weekend. The right-hander pitchedin all three games of the series, struck out seven of the 10 batters hefaced and did not give up a hit or a walk to the Bulldogs in threeinnings of work. He earned his team-best third save of the year inSaturday's contest after entering the 7-3 game in the ninth inning withrunners on first and second and no outs. He struck out the side to endthe MSU scoring threat and the game.
The Player of the Week honor is the first for Lillibridge, while it is the45th such honor for Washington. The Pitcher of the Week honor is thefirst for Melancon and the 30th selection all-time for Arizona.
