No. 18 California Defeats No. 53 Purdue, 5-2

Berkeley - The No. 18 California women's tennis team defeated No. 53 Purdue, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Center. With the win, the Bears record improves to 8-3 overall, while the Boilermakers fall to 2-7 overall.
Purdue came away with the doubles point, winning two of three matches. Cal's freshmen duo of Cristina Visico and Tiffany Lee notched the Bears lone win on court three, edging Hala Sufi and Alyssa Rodriguez, 8-6.
Cal came back strong in singles play, capturing five of six matches. Freshman No. 5 Suzi Babos tallied her team-high 25th victory of the year on court one, defeating Sufi, 6-1; 6-1. Freshman Stephanie Kusano got her second consecutive win from court two, beating Stephanie Wooten, 4-6; 6-2; 6-1. Sophomore Monica Wiesener won in straight sets on court three, 6-2; 6-1, over Shawna Zuccarini.
Court four saw freshman Marion Ravelojaona net her seventh dual win of the season, defeating Rodriguez, 6-2; 6-0. Junior co-captain Jessica Shu was victorious on court five, beating Brooke Beier in straight sets, 6-4; 6-3
The Bears remain at home, hosting Princeton Friday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Center.
