Wiggins Named USBWA Co-Freshman of the Year

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford's standout freshman guard, Candice Wiggins, earned another honor today, as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) honored the rookie as Co-Freshman of the Year. Wiggins shares the accolade with Georgia's Tasha Humphrey.
Wiggins, who will help the Cardinal at the NCAA Tournament this weekend, has also been named Pac-10 Player of the Year, Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, and Most Outstanding Player at the Pac-10 Tournament. Wiggins was also recognized as a Midseason addition to the Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy lists. She leads the top-ranked Cardinal with 17.3 points per game and is the squad's second-leading rebounder with 5.4 boards per game.
Wiggins and her teammates will face Santa Clara in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. The game is set to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2. Live audio will also be available on KNTS 1220 AM and online through GoStanford.com.
