Women Of Troy Golf Clinches First Win Of The Year at UNLV Spring Invitational

The No. 7 Women of Troy golf team shot a two-over-par 290 on Wednesday to clinch its first win of the year at the UNLV Spring Invitational at the Black Mountain Golf and Country Club in Henderson, Nevada.
Sophomore Catalina Marin finished in third place to help lead the Trojans to victory. Every member of the team finished in the top 25.
The Trojans played strong throughout the entire tournament and remained in first place following each round. The Women of Troy finished the tournament with a 31-over-par three round score of 895 for a 15-stroke lead over second place finisher Pepperdine.
The Waves played a solid final round after shooting a three-over 291 that moved them up to a second place finish. Arizona entered round three in a comfortable second but shot an 18-over-par 306 today to slide the Wildcats down to third place.
Marin entered the final round of play in second place but shot a four-over 76 that bumped her down to a third place finish, two strokes behind individual champion Cassandra Kirkland of Arizona.
USC freshman Dewi-Claire Schreefel shot a tournament low two-under 70 in the final round (Heather Olmstead of Nevada also shot 70 in the second round) to edge her way from 17th to finish tied for fifth place at nine over.
Sophomore Veronica Felibert shot a one-over 73 in the final round to finish tied for ninth at 10 over and Trojan teammate senior Irene Cho ended the day tied for 11th place after shooting 73, her best round of the tourney to finish at 11 over. Junior Tanya Dergal shot a two-over 74 in the final round to rise from 25th to finish in 18th place at 15 over.
The Trojans will next be in action April 1-3 at the Ping Invitational hosted by Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.
