Andersson Named Golf World Player of the Week
March 17, 2005
BERKELEY, Calif. - California junior Sofie Andersson has been named Golf World's College Player of the Week after winning last week's Spartan Invitational.
Andersson, a product of Angelholm, Sweden, won her first collegiate title by matching the school record for 54 holes at seven-under 206. Cal's Sarah Huarte - the defending NCAA champion - carded a seven-under 209 through 54 holes of the 72-hole NCAA Championships last year. Andersson's performance, however, was the best by a Golden Bear golfer in a 54-hole tournament.
Additionally, Andersson established a new Cal record for 36 holes by shooting seven-under 135 at the Corral De Tierra Country Club last week. After winning the Spartan Invitational, she climbed to a personal-best No. 19 national ranking by Golfweek. Andersson has led the Bears in four of five tournaments this season and boasts a team-best 73.8 stroke average.
