No. 1 Stanford Hosts No. 35 Pepperdine on Sunday

Stanford, Calif. - The No. 1 ranked Stanford women's tennis team resumes the 2005 campaign on Sunday when they host No. 35 ranked Pepperdine at the Taube Tennis Center at 12:00 pm. With six players ranked in the top-50, the Cardinal ranked as the top team in the nation for the eighth time in as many weeks according to the most recent ITA rankings.
Two-time NCAA singles champion Amber Liu is the top-ranked Cardinal competitor, checking in at No. 9 in the ITA rankings released on March 15th. Senior Erin Burdette is right on Liu's heels at the No. 13 spot, while junior Alice Barnes and freshman Lejla Hodzic check in at No. 22 and No. 28, respectively. Sophomore Theresa Logar is ranked No. 31, and freshman Whitney Deason rounds out the Cardinal singles competitors in the rankings at No. 45.
Two Stanford doubles tandems are also ranked, as the duo of Burdette and Barnes is ranked No. 7 and the pairing of Liu and sophomore Anne Yelsey is currently No. 27.
Only one of Stanford's opponents this season has not had an ITA team ranking, and the Cardinal have posted a 12-0 overall record and a 3-0 mark against Pac-10 competition.
Pepperdine enters the weekend on a five-match winning streak, having defeated No. 40 ranked Fresno State by a 6-1 score last Sunday. The Waves, who have won 16 of the last 17 West Coast Conference women's tennis championships, have posted a 9-3 record so far this season. Bianca Dulgheru is Pepperdine's top-ranked singles competitor, checking in at No. 86. The Waves host Denver on Friday afternoon before traveling to The Farm for Sunday's contest.
Following Sunday's match, the Cardinal travels to UNLV on Wednesday before returning to The Farm for a Pac-10 Conference match against Oregon on March 26th.
