No. 18 California Defeats Princeton, 6-1

Berkeley - The No. 18 California women's tennis team defeated Princeton, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Center. With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 9-3 overall, while the Tigers fall to 4-5 overall.

Cal opened play capturing the doubles point, winning two of three matches. Court one saw Cal's freshman duo of Suzi Babos and Marion Ravelojaona defeated Stephanie Berg and Jessica Siebel, 8-2. The Bears clinched the doubles point on court three, where another team of freshmen, Tiffany Lee and Cristina Visico were victorious over Christine Kansky and Laura Trimble, 8-5.

Cal's success carried over into singles, where the Bears picked up five of six matches. Freshman No. 5 Babos won in straight sets over Darcy Robertson, 6-1; 6-2. Fellow freshman Stephanie Kusano defeated Siebel on court two, 6-1; 6-1.

Cal went on to pick up wins on courts four, five an six to ensure the victory. Ravelojaona defeated Trimble in straight sets, 6-1; 6-3. Junior co-captain Jessica Shu was victorious, picking up a win over Joanna Roth, 6-1; 6-3. Visico won on court six, where she beat Berg, 6-2; 6-3.

The Bears next face No. 35 Pepperdine on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Center.
