No. 28 California Defeats No. 44 SMU, 6-1

Dallas, TX - The No. 28 Golden Bears convincingly defeated No. 44 SMU, 6-1, at the Mustang's Haggar Tennis Stadium. With the win, California improves to 6-6 overall on the year.

The Bears opened play by grabbing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The No. 23 duo of Patrick Briaud and Conor Niland defeating Paul McNaughton and Federico Murgier, 8-4. The doubles point was clinched on court three, where Lennart Maack and Dean Wallace defeated David Kuezer and Gwinyai Chingoka, 8-4.

Cal went on to win five of six singles matches. No. 27 Niland outlast McNaughton on court one, 6-3; 1-6; 7-6 (11-9). Junior transfer Maack picked up a win on court two, where he beat Murgier in straight sets, 6-2; 6-4.

Senior captain Briaud was victorious on court three, where he defeated Chingoka, 6-3; 6-2. Sophomore Daniel Sebescen netted a win for the Bears on court four, beating Peter Oredsson, 7-5; 2-6 (10-6).

Freshman Ken Nakahara came away with a win in straight sets over Adolfo Solares, 6-3; 6-4, on court six.

The Bears will head to Waco, TX, to take on No. 1 Baylor Monday, March 21 at 6 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
