WALNUT CREEK, Calif.- ARIZONA senior catcher Jackie Coburn has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, and Oregon State sophomore Brianne McGowan has been named Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 15-21, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Coburn, from Phoenix, Ariz., hit .357, while leading the Wildcats with three home runs and two doubles over six games in Arizona's second-place finish in the Kia Klassic. She combined for 10 RBI, which were half of the team's total for the tournament and tallied 16 total bases. Defensively, Coburn started all six games behind the plate, the first time she has done so this year. Her error-free effort behind the plate helped UA's pitchers to a 0.82 ERA on the weekend, while she also threw out two base runners.

McGowan, from Reno, Nev., led the Beavers to a pair of victories at the Capital Classic in Sacramento on Mar. 18 before tournament action was canceled due to rain, and a victory against No. 23 ranked Northwestern in a make-up game on Mar. 21. The 6-2 right-hander was a perfect 3-0 on the week with two complete games and has won 10 straight outings. She held a 1.65 ERA to go along with 20 strike outs. McGowan matched her career best with 10 strike outs against No. 23 Northwestern. At the plate, McGowan hit .571 (4-for-7) in OSU's three wins, scoring two runs, blasting a double and home run, while tallying a team-best seven RBI. She held a 1.143 slugging percentage. McGowan was 1-for-1 with a 2-RBI double in the Beavers' 8-0 victory against Long Island on Mar. 18 and followed that game with a 3-run home run in a 6-2 victory against University of Iowa. She went 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBI to help lead the Beavers past No. 23-ranked Northwestern. The Beavers have won 11 consecutive games, one behind the school record of 12 straight wins, accomplished in the 2002 and 1999 seasons.

This is the second weekly honor for Coburn and the first for McGowan. The awards are the 93rd and 23rd all-time honors for the Wildcats and Beavers, respectively.
