USC Men's Tennis Falls To Second-Ranked Illinois, 4-3

LOS ANGELES - The No. 9 USC men's tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 2 Illinois on Wednesday, March 23, at Marks Stadium in a night match under the lights. With the loss the Trojans fall to 7-8 while the Fighting Illini improve to 12-1 on the season.

USC started the match taking two of the three doubles positions to clinch the doubles point. USC's Drew Hoskins and Adam Loucks upset the ninth-ranked doubles combo of Ryler Deheart and G.D. Jones, 8-4, at center court. Jarryd Cooper and Kaes Van't Hof clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 victory over Chris Martin and Brandon Davis at court No. 3.

In singles, Illinois started off taking the first match with G.D. Jones' 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hoskins at court No. 2. USC responded with Jamil Al-Agba's 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kevin Anderson at center court. The see-saw match continued with Illinois picking up the next match when Ruben Gonzales beat Loucks, 6-3, 6-2, at court No. 5. USC came right back with Van't Hof's 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Monte Tucker at court No. 4. But Illinois took the last two matches to overcome their deficit and win the match.

USC next takes the court this weekend in Arizona when they face Arizona State on Friday, March 25, at 1:30 p.m. and Arizona on Saturday, March 26, at 1 p.m. Both matches will be held at Marks Stadium.
